O Sing of the Unicorn!
A post that includes a trip up north, a foggy grey day, fond thoughts of a friend and "The Eagle of the Ninth" If you ever happen to see this, I hope you like it.
July's post ended up being alot inspired by "the Eagle of the Ninth" by Rosemary Sutcliff. And by Jenny, who got me interested in the series, Roman Britain and inspired me to read the entirety of Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney.
"It was a green and brown sort of scenery, she thought squinting up at the sun which seemed to be desperately trying to pierce the fog before setting.
She found it quite enchanting how fog still hung around clinging to the forested hillsides. It reminded her of that one chapter in "The Eagle of the Ninth." Was it even yet
creeping in as it did in the eagle of the ninth? What excitement! she would have
to tell her friend.
The fog was stealthy creeping down the hillsides, as the calvery rode along. "Hurry Men, we must reach the fort before dusk! Pick up the pace!"
The forrested land could be maliciously oppressive. Throwing the onyx
black blanket over the land and trapping any traveler who happened to
be out late in the grip of inexplicable opressive terror. A cruel
beauty, if beauty was to be claimed.
